Picual is a particularly hardy, less demanding variety of Spanish olive. It can grow to a height of about 4-6 m. Its leaves are silvery. Its small, fragrant white flower clusters open in June and are self-fertile. Its fruit is a purple olive, which ripens in late October or early November. It needs a sunny, warm spot. It is not fussy about soil. It tolerates drought well. Its frost resistance is -12°C to -15°C, but young plants need to be protected with a shelter during the first two or three winters. Potted trees can be planted all year round. For freshly planted specimens, regular, abundant, daily watering from spring to late autumn is important, especially during hot periods.
